Medal - Coronation of Edward VII & Queen Alexandra 1902 on original presentation card
Silvered medal with smooth edge struck for the 1902 Coronation, complete with original blue ribbon and ornate gilt suspension bar with single pin fitting. RD 37198 (Registered Design) in relief on the reverse, the name POPE in relief under the King's neck.
The medal is in overall good condition with only minor signs of age generally and just the edge deformed slightly by the metal loop. The ribbon has become threadbare along the pin with fading / discolouration overall. The true colour can be seen on the reverse. The card is a little grubby with some minor marks and stains. There is some creasing and a 1.6cm tear around originating from one of the pin location holes.
This is certainly a scarce medal, and to find one with its original card is a rarity.

Framed letter sent to Captain Basham on behalf of H.M. The Queen dated 1921
An unique letter from Buckingham Palace by the private secretary to H.M. The Queen dated 18th January 1921, to Captain Basham, The Cottage Toy Industry, 1 Crabbe Street, Aldeburgh, Suffolk. The wording is as follows:
I write by command of The Queen to say that, if it would be of any help to you and to those working in your industry to tell your friends and customers that Her Majesty has recently purchased articles from your establishment, you are quite at liberty to do so. I feel that it is unnecessary to assure you how keenly interested The Queen is in all that affects the welfare and happiness of the ex-Service man, and Her Majesty desires me to say that she gladly makes a special exemption on this occasion, and gives permission for you to display this letter in your place of business.
A watermark '1911' can be seen on the left hand side - the year of the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary. Mounted in an ebonised wood frame with card backing, typical of the period and all in good condition.

King Edward VIII commemorative set for the coronation that never happened
Edward VIII became king on the death of his father George V on 20th January 1936. Due to be crowned in 1937, he abdicated on 11th December 1936, having created a constitutional crisis by proposing marriage to socialite and divorcee Wallis Simpson. Edward was succeeded by his younger brother George VI, the coronation taking place on the day planned for Edward - 12th May 1937.
The set includes pin brooch and a spoon with enamelled terminal, both inset with a gold coloured medallion with bust of Edward VIII facing right and the words Edward VIII Crowned May XII. MCM XXX VII. Capital letters G (George) and E (Edward) in blue enamel are incorporated into the brooch on either side of the medallion. Two medallions 36mm dia. - one in a silver finish and one in a gold finish suspended from a red, white and blue ribbon. The design of the medallions is identical. Both carry the busts (facing left) of George V and Elizabeth (Queen Mother to be) and the words George V. Elizabeth Crowned May XII. MCM XXX VII. The reverse bears an image of Britannia seated right with the words CANADA. INDIA S.AFRICA. AUSTRALIA. NEW ZEALAND. BRITAIN. Engraver's initials ECRP - Edward Carter Preston. The brooch is pinned into the velvet lining, the other three items are held in position with the original cotton thread and have never been removed. The box is made up from stiff card and is covered with a thin navy blue faux leather finish. The top has some minor indentations with slight wear to corners. The silk lining inside the lid is marked with impressions of all four items. A scarce set in unusually good condition.
In October 1937, Edward and Wallis Simpson met Adolph Hitler at his Obersalzberg retreat at Berchtesgaden. During the visit Edward gave full Nazi salutes. Hitler is reported to have said; "I am certain through him permanent friendly relations could have been achieved. If he had stayed, everything would have been different. His abdication was a severe loss to us".

Book - The Royal Family in Wartime plus two original photographs
First edition, published by Odhams Press Limited, 1945. 128 pages packed with over 100 black and white photos. Described as a “little treasure of a book”, the variety of the pictures is immense and there are some very interesting and sometimes humorous anecdotes. The dust jacket has a number of tears, the price on the inside flap (5/-) has not been clipped. The majority of pages suffer from slight cockling towards the spine and along the bottom but otherwise in reasonably good condition. All images bright. Binding remains firm.
Included are two black & white photographs which have previously been mounted with traces of black card remaining. Faintly stamped on the reverse: "British Official Photograph Crown Copyright Reserved. This photograph should not be reproduced without permission". Also something written in pencil which has been partially obscured. Ironically the photos came along first and the book a month later - and an amazing coincidence to see one of the photos reproduced on page 47. The photographs do not lie flat, but no creases or tears. The exposure of the photos is darker than those in the book.
