Clippers, Packets & Men o' War - The Tall Ship in Art
Roy Cross, Derek Gardner, John Groves, Geoff Hunt, Mark Myers Published 2005 by Bounty Books Hardback with dust wrapper - 144 pages ISBN 978-0-753711-40-8
With a gallery of more than 100 paintings, this book offers some of the finest works of art of five of Britain's foremost maritime artists, all acknowledged masters of the tall ship genre. Within this theme the paintings range far and wide from familiar subjects such as the great clippers, Nelsonic line-of-battle ships and glorious Edwardian yachts, and humbler vessels from the age when wind was the energy source and every ship was a tall ship. In addition to many of the complete pictures there are sketches, drawings and caption notes which give a greater insight into the work. A fabulous book for anyone with an interest in Britain's maritime heritage.
Great condition throughout, slight undulation to pages but all bright and clean. Dust wrapper not price clipped.

Jutland to Junkyard - The raising of the scuttled German High Seas Fleet from Scapa Flow - the greatest salvage operation of all time
S.C. George Published 2003 by Birlinn Paperback 150 pages (48 pages b/white photos) ISBN 1-84341-010-9
On 21st June 1919, at Scapa Flow, in Orkney, the German High Seas Fleet interned under the terms of the armistice, were scuttled on the orders of Admiral Ludwig von Reuter. By late morning, 52 of the 74 interned vessels lay on the seabed. Initially most of the sunken ships were left where they lay as the cost of salvaging them was deemed not worth the potential returns. Then along came the entrepreneur Ernest Cox who had other ideas. He developed an ingenious new salvage technique, which, combined with the courage and resourcefulness of the salvagers in the face of extreme odds, managed to raise 26 destroyers, 2 battle cruisers and 5 battleships before retiring as the "man who bought a navy".
Good used condition. Minor creases to front cover, slight page yellowing, otherwise no issues.

The Pocket Encyclopedia of World Aircraft in Colour - Fighters 1914 -19
Attack and Training Aircraft
Kenneth Munson First edition 1968 by Blandford Press Hardback with dust wrapper - 185 pages
When WWI broke out in 1914, aircraft designed to fight one another in the air did not exist. Only a handful of 90mph "high performance" scouts with no regular armament were grudgingly regarded by the military as being of use for observing the progress of the war. By the end of the war, two-gun fighters capable of 120mph were standard with more advanced designs already making an appearance. This interesting book contains an overview of 80 world aircraft with split view colour illustrations giving upper and lower surface markings and insignia within a single plane outline.
Very good used condition. Dust wrapper not price clipped. Previous owner has encapsulated the covers with plastic film. Minor transfer marks on first and last pages caused by sellotape used for encapsulation.

The Pocket Encyclopedia of World Aircraft in Colour - Bombers 1914 -19
Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft
Kenneth Munson First edition 1968 by Blandford Press Hardback with dust wrapper - 180 pages
Bombs were dropped from an aeroplane at least as early as November 1911, nearly three years before the outbreak of WWI and hence the bomber could claim to predate fighter planes as a weapon of war. The war years saw the development of outstanding and varied bomber designs and the menace of the submarine spurred development of the flying boat patrol bomber. Throughout the war, evolution of reconnaissance aircraft evolved to such an extent that by 1918 they could out-perform some of the ablest fighters in service. A fascinating book containing an overview of 66 aircraft with split view colour illustrations giving upper and lower surface markings and insignia within a single plane outline.
